Supercharged Vette vs.F430

Supercharged Vette vs.F430

Thanks to ChargerRTZ for this Euro vs. American street match-up.

You know what it's like, you're just moeseying along in your ridiculously-loud, supercharged Corvette when you espy a F430 up ahead. Well, rude not to go and introduce yourself, right?

The two cars do some freeway slicing and dicing, then get a listen to the 'Vette's exhaust rumble and check out it's Stars & Stripes engine block. Sweet! Then it's time to play with a friend's Z06. Seems like a pretty good way to spend the day.

1000hp Viper vs. 1000hp Cobra

1000hp Viper vs. 1000hp Cobra

Ricekiller.com mean serious business when it comes to putting cars head-to-head.

This night race in Mexico on a completely deserted highway pits a 1000hp Viper against a 1000hp Cobra. The cars do runs from 40, 60 and 80mph, with all the action filmed from a Vette that's along for the ride.

A few missed gears means some of the runs don't go as smoothly as planned, so it's hard to tell who the real winner is, but just wait for when the Viper comes flying by at 185mph. Insane.

Watch the 1000hp Viper vs. 1000hp Cobra and see which snake is the meanest.

Twin Turbo Vette

Twin Turbo Vette

Some nice American Muscle in this video from ChargerRTZ

We love the irony of someone putting a "SPD KILZ" license plate on a Corvette Z06 and then doing 100mph runs in the car. Classic! Of course, that's literally half of this car's performance but you still get to ride shotgun as the car guns it to a tonne, then blows off some steam on the dyno for a total RWHP of 548.

The Z06 goes up against an '02 Z06 that's had some work done, a Cobra and an '06 Z06. See who gets to go home bragging in the Twin Turbo Vette vid.

To see the Z06 in some seriously high-octane company, check out the Ehra Lessien Top Speed Shoot Out The voiceover's in German, but we don't think you're going to care.

GT-R R35 vs. C6 Z06

GT-R R35 vs. C6 Z06

We want to say thanks to cammedLs1 for bringing us this video but we're not really sure what we just saw.

Well, fine, it's a C6 Z06 vs. a GT-R R35 going head-to-head on the street. And while it's shot in Oman, we're pretty sure all that oil money could pay for a few more street lights so we could get a better idea of just what the hell is going on!

See what happens as American Muscle goes up against Japanese Engineering from 60kph, 80kph, a standing start and finally 180kph. From what we can tell, the U.S. of A. whups some serious ass! Then again, a dark road, a '3 honk GO signal' and goodness knows who behind the wheel does not exactly make this a conclusive test, so Nissan, don't fret too much, we still love the GT-R.

Old School Street Race

Old School Street Race

We're sensing that ratss has a love for old American Muscle if this video is anything to go by.

It's almost painful waiting for the light to go green. You can feel those big engines just raring to go, revved up under the hood, drivers' knuckles white on the steering wheel, just waiting to slam that right foot to the floor.

Who's gonna win the drag and get to the diner first for a chocolate malt? OK, maybe that's being a bit too retro, but those burbling exhausts and roaring engines are enough to make us think we've gone back in time.

Z06 vs. R8

Z06 vs. R8

Cheers to SUPRA2JZGTE for sharing this street race with us. We're not too sure who's behind the wheel of the R8 but we think they might need driving lessons.

505hp of RWD American Muscle vs. 420hp of AWD German Engineering. Evidently, the Vette has it on paper and, judging by this video, in reality, too. Obviously a 500lb weight advantage gives the Z06 the edge as well, but we would have expected more from the R8.

Next match up? The ZR1 vs. the R8 V10. Oh, now that's gonna be fun.

Swedish Street Race

Swedish Street Race
Tack, or thank you, to antihero69 for this upload.

Nothing like gathering a few friends together on a deserted road in a Swedish forest to do a bit of illegal street racing. We're assuming it wasn't a sanctioned meet given the blurring of the number plates (you never can be too careful; there's no telling who's watching Streetfire these days...).

The cars may be old but they do a mean job of burning rubber and going head-to-head along this not-particularly-wide piece of asphalt. Choose your favorite between a Volvo, a BMW, a Trans Am, a couple of Supras and a couple of VW Bugs. We're not sure what's gone on under the hoods of those Beetles, but they are definitely not stock. Or maybe they just breed them different in Sweden.

VIDEO: 1989 Honda CRX vs. 2001 Lambo

1989 Honda CRX vs. 2001 Lambo

Uploaded by: MRJDM609

The people at Mischief.tv uploaded this unbelievable clip. If I hadn't seen it a while ago I'd think it was an April fool’s prank. Why? Well, just read the title of the video again. Now, if you saw a Honda CRX and a Lamborghini Murcielago side by side on the open road with the drivers even contemplating a run, what would your initial reaction be?

As obvious as the obvious may seem maybe this is a lesson to always be open-minded to the ingenuity of gearheads.

The passenger in the Lambo gives an accurate summation after each run. The first run begins about 20 seconds into the clip and the second about 50 seconds into the clip.

Here are a few stock stats on the cars:

Lambo: Engine: 6.2L V-12, 572; Weight: 4058; 0-60 in 3.8

1989 Honda CRX: Engine: B18 Series; Weight: 1,834 pounds; 0-60 FAST!

SSC, the fastest car in the world, is Pushrod powered

View Video

Brought to you by StreetFire Podcast

The King is dead, long live the King. The United States has taken the crown from the Europeans with Pushrod power. 4 minutes and 50 seconds into this video, our own Chris Jones talks with SSC about the design of the Ultimate Aero motor and what it takes to unseat the Veyron as the fastest car in the world at nearly 260mph. And how does the SSC compare to the Veyron in a heads up race? 7 car lengths ahead at 180mph with both cars still accelerating.

Untrained stupid drivers put your family at risk, not StreetFire

Hey All, I don't often do this, but after operating this site as long as we have, I've gotten a number of these and feel the time has come to make a public stand about sites like StreetFire being the cause of unsafe streets.
-----------------------
Via the StreetFire Feedback Form
-----------------------
xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.xx
11/14/2007 8:02:16 PM
Does it matter to anyone one there that might have a wife and kids that use the highway, that your site has inspired guys to reach dangerous, out of control speeds on the same high way? Or is it a matter that your desire for money far out ways the chance of it being Your family that gets wiped out? What's the chances that your sense of morality and subsequent integrity may over ride the calculation of lost interest in your site if you ban "Public road high speed masturbations". Truth is you might get a lot of credit for being a leader. A Professional Responsible Corporate citizen. You may even put up a links page of race tracks and get some advertising dollars from them. Hoping common sense prevails. X Xxxx. President: Xxxxx Xxxx Xxxxxxxxx

Mr Xxxxx,
As the founder of StreetFire I do my best to reply to all the feedback left on our site. Your feedback implies StreetFire inspires people to recklessly endanger your family. As a family man myself your concern bears response.

While I can see the cause and effect logic that brings you to that conclusion, I could not agree with you less. Indeed, I encourage you to watch "American Graffiti" a 1973 movie about kids street racing in the 60's, and you'll see StreetFire is not the source of car culture, rather a reflection of it. This isn't new to this generation, cars and street life are a constant. In the 1950's Kids loved cars. The 60's Yea, they loved the love bug. The 70's? Smokey and the Bandit, the 80's? Deloreans and Knight Rider. The 90's? Fast and Furious. The 2000s? Tokyo Drift.

StreetFire reflects the hobby, and the hobby has both safe and dangerous sides, reflected on and off the track. As a reflection of the hobby, and a place for enthusiast to share the hobby, we would have to be morally corrupt to censor the videos and photos our members upload on the basis of them being "proper" or "improper".

Bob Peterson, the patron saint of automotive enthusiast media, took a similar magnanimous view, and his museum today continues that legacy. Right now the Peterson Museum is featuring cars from the Lowrider scene, which also bears the reputation of being an "illegal" "criminal" culture. But when you walk through the halls of the Peterson Museum, and see the amazing works of art these Lowrider cars represent, only someone that can't appreciate art would walk away unmoved. The illegal street scene that made the Lowrider culture blossom is part of that reflection, and Bob Peterson's museum would be morally corrupt to represent the cars out of context, or to even talk down or pass negative judgment on the LA Latino culture that created it. As a matter of fact I highly recommend you buy a copy of Lowrider Magazine and see the amazing vehicles these craftsman create.

In an ideal world we would all be able to enjoy our hobby in the safe confines of a race track behind a 30 foot tall fence with a fleet of ambulances, and non alcoholic beer for our enjoyment as experienced professionals whisk hybrid fuel efficient cars along a track made of recycled tire material with a bouquet of wild flowers growing in their wake.

But this is decidedly not an ideal world, and people that hate the car hobby try to take it away from us every day. Our tracks are too noisy, they must be closed down. Our cars are too fast, we must make it illegal to personalize them. Our cars are too dirty, we must buy electric toys.

You say I should be a good corporate citizen and provide a list of tracks? I would say SHAME ON YOU SIR, because that list gets shorter every day, and I cry the loss of each one. It's people like you that close them and force people like us onto the streets.

There are other video sharing sites with a hundred times our traffic that have street race videos, that would happily comply with you. I'm sure the hippies running those web sites would do anything it takes to keep from offending you and ruining your calm.

But you know what? I created StreetFire 3 years ago as a way for enthusiasts around the world to share their passion, and I will stand up for and defend anyone of our 2 MILLION STRONG users that honor us with their allegiance. I will not judge their behavior as right or wrong because I would be a hypocrite to throw the first stone. This charter I have created with my community is why loyal users still upload videos to StreetFire in spite of there being other better known services out there.

So I will leave you with this Mr Xxxx, I don't want you to screw off, I want you to apologize to anyone you see sitting on the side of the road, pulled over for speeding. Because of people like you, car enthusiast and speeders are the Scape-Goat as we suffer society's witch hunt for safer streets through slower speeds. But we know that's BS, because the real menace to our roads is a distracted driver, yapping on a cell phone drifting over into the fast lane while going 5 mph under the speedlimit.

Car Enthusiuasts are not the problem, we're the answer, because we're the only people on the road paying attention anymore. Heck forget paying attention, we're the only people left that still enjoy driving.

Sincerely,
Adam Bruce

Wheels in the Sky

Not often you see a wheel stander at a street race, but this one is just sick. Especially 38 seconds in when he comes slamming back down and leaves a nice signature on the street. Love it. Another great onebrought to you by our long time friends at 1320Video.com.

Put a Jacket on Puh-Lease!

Here's a SQUID for ya, hopefully won't take a spill to get him to put some proper gear on. Love how the shirt flies up his back at speed too.. Anyhow, so this vid is a Kawi 636 getting clobbered by a built 300ZX. Just to point out before all your Car v. Bikers start flaming each other, the Kawi rider isn't tucked behind the screen, and 70-140 is a pretty weak zone for a middle weight bike. Regardless good kill to the Nissan.

Rally Racing history lesson, from Cannonball Run to Bullrun

So I've been watching the Bullrun on Spike, (Tonight is the last episode, I'm give'n props to Mike and Morgan of Team Trans Am!). It's been a pretty fun show to watch, but it is (maybe to a fault) commercialized for TV....and it has to be to cast a wide enough net to work on television. But this is the net, so we can get the real deal online.

Because of that, I'm really enjoying the series running on Fast Lane Daily right now where Michael Spinelli (editor of Jalopnik) is talking with Alex Roy (Team Polizei) about Rallies, their history and lifestyle. I think it involves something about a starting with a hand full of cash, lighting it on fire, and tossing your driving record into the mix while you're at it.
