While on the subject of S2000's...TunerVlog.com

I've been saving this video for a feature until we could collect some stats comparing us to the other guys, but first....

.....let me gush about this video for a second. Great job, great editing, and I see they had a bit of fun at the end. TunerVlog.com did a great job with this video. The car? It's immaculate, and I love the mods, aggressive yet tasteful. The car's owner, Stephen Tran of Team RPM has a great ride, and now that I've seen a boosted S2000 can crack out a 12.25@113mph, I have to admit I have a new found appreciation for Hondas with more than two wheels....yes I'm a CBR snob.

[Video: Team RPM S2000 by TunerVlog]

So now time to toot our own horn. This same video was uploaded to both YouTube and StreetFire on August 22. A week later and this video has received 872 views on YouTube .... nice ... respectable .... but a whopping 2,350 views on StreetFire, almost 4 times more exposure in 7 days. (note I'm sure the views will go up after this Blog post, but this is what they are at time of writing)

So more exposure is nice, but here is a direct side by side quality comparison. We encode at 528Kbps to YouTube's 330Kbps, which doesn't make much sense to non-techie types, so here is a picture worth a thousand words...or at least an extra 198Kbps... notice the detailing in the leaves and street.

So, more exposure, higher quality, and best of all, keeping it "in the car family" But if you still insist on using third party video hosts, ... hey we support that too.

Now this is a sleeper.

Traditionally a sleeper is like a Buick Roadmaster Woodie Wagon with a big block Chevy hidden under the hood. This little S2000 is a sleeper because one look at this car and it appears no different than any other low 14 second S2000 out there. Heck I'd race him just to teach him a thing or two......then he'd hand me my ass as he clips off a 12.25@113mph!! That's C5-Z06 Vette territory from a bone stock looking S2000.... most impressive....lesson learned....my own..

Groove'n out on a wet F1 track (Spa-Francorchamps)

Now I really enjoy hearing Peter Windsor take us around F1 tracks, on race day, but this drive around in an Opel Speedster by Rugissante.com has got to be the grooviest track orientation I've watched yet, and it just reiterates to me that Spa-Francorchamps F1 track is the prettiest F1 track on the tour....damn shame they cut it out of the 2006 season. But it looks like Spa is back on the 2007 calendar at the expense of San Marino....sob....can't we keep them all?

Congrats to Sue Young

Sue Young took the ladies record with a 25.78 second run at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb. Very impressive driving, check out the video....man this looks like fun racing to me. I've only recently become exposed to hill climbs and I have to say it looks like a really fun sport. ... The relative safety of time attack with the speeds of an open track, sign me up!

BAM! Cockpit view of 911 RSR crash on the Nur

After the 7:15.63 Nuerburgring time video from yesterday I was really excited to see this one coming through the moderation que. Those Porsche 911 RSR's are just beasts pure and simple. About half way in though the driver over-cooks a corner and smacks a wall at some unholy speed. The violence of the impact isn't deadened much by the camera mic. Thankfully the driver sounded uninjured after the crash.

Great Little Drift Video

Submitted by "buck19", this is an honest little video just showing some well edited footage of a local drift meet. Buck is in college right now, and this effort shows he has a lot of potential no matter which direction he goes. Thanks for the upload, we look forward to seeing more!

Chop our logo

So, I thought it might be cool to have some fun with our new logo. Lots of people on our forum need new sig pics, and what better way to break it in than to plaster it all over stuff. So here it is, the official StreetFire.net logo chop thread... Winner gets a beer if I happen to run into you at Nopi.....if you're over 21..... if you're under 21 I'll get you a sandwich or something... Better yet, just do it to have some fun.

New Logo

Probably bigger news to us than anyone else, but we're still very proud of it. With the pressures of trying to organize T-shirts and Stickers, we became painfully aware our old logo was in need of some professional help. A big thank you goes out to Patrick White for creating this re-imagination of our old logo into a much cooler design. It's both, easier to read and easier to print while paying homage to the original. Thanks man, we appreciate it!!

Nuerburgring Nordschleife in 7 Min 15.63 Seconds

I watch thousands of videos, and this one is .... well flat out awe inspiring. According to the description this video of a Porsche 996 GT2 RS, modded by Edo Competition, is the fastest lap of a street legal Porsche ever. I am inclined to believe it. Here is an article backing the claim, as well as a brief write up the on the Edo Competition web site.

Tuned up Mustang Shelby GT500 does 483 RWHP

Okay Okay I admit it, this is the second Shelby GT500 dyno I've posted in a week. What can I say I'm a sucker for any stock car that puts over 400 HP to the rollers in stock form.. This one does 435 RWHP stock and 483 RWHP with a mild tune! That's about 568 HP at the crank with 15% drivetrain loss!

BTW guys, PLEASE get a better microphone, this recording is all peaked out.... Also I would love to see the actual dyno graph.

FINALLY! I've been dying for someone to upload a videos of one of these! For those of you not in the know, Ford made a limited run of special high performance Mustangs called the Shelby GT-H. Available through your local Hertz as a rental, this car is more than just a sticker job with actual performance improvements.
...something tells m that burn outs are probably no in the rental agreement, but come on, this is cool.

Video: 2008 Audi R8 Supercar

Audi R8 finally in the States!
By Brenda Priddy for StreetFire.net

Audi has confirmed production of the R8 super-coupe, which will go on sale in spring 2007. We brought you photos last year of a test 'mule' running under an A6 bodyshell, and then the "real thing" out on the world's most challenging race-track: the Nurburgring in Germany. And now, we've finally caught the R8 doing final testing here in the States.

The R8 is derived from the Le Mans Quattro concept car first seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003; it takes the name of Audi's Le Mans car to emphasis its performance potential. Though some of the technologies used in the car, such as the FSI direct fuel injection system, were developed in the R8 racer, the production R8 is more closely related to the road-going Lamborghini Gallardo.

It shares a version of the Gallardo's structural underpinnings and will come with a detuned version of the Gallardo's 5.0-litre V10, giving 450bhp, as well as the 420bhp V8 found in the RS4. This is a measure to ensure that sales of the more expensive Gallardo will not be affected. Audi hasn't announced pricing for the R8 as yet, but it will undercut the Gallardo by some margin. A starting point of around EUR 95,000 ($115,000) has been rumored, putting it up against the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

Air Productions reviews a Ferrari Icon

Just in time for Colin Farrell & Jamie Foxx to make Miami Vice hip again, the crew at Air Productions (AirProdu.com) have reviewed this immaculate Ferrari Testarossa, owned by George Plavlisko.

This video is very well edited and I can't wait to see more submissions like this. I have to admit I see a little "Top Gear" influence in some of the cuts and filters....and that is high praise indeed. Sure helps tide me over until the new season of TG comes back in the Fall. 911 GT2: Let the Sun Shine in!

The 911 GT2 spy photos have been out for some time now (despite what WCF said), but they did just publish the best shots of the new 911 GT2 I've seen yet including what I'm sure is a 99% dead on PhotoChop of the final.

But something is strange, and I've been noodling it for some time, when it finally occurred to me why these pictures seam weird to me..... It's the sunroof.... Did the old 911 GT2 have a sunroof? Just seams a bit odd to me to cut a hole in a tin top race car.

Camaro Concept, improving perfection?

When I saw the Camaro concept at the Atlanta Autoshow I just stood in awe for good half hour. The rear haunches especially were just mesmerizing, I knew GM had a winner. But if there was one area that I thought could be improved, it was the tail lights. Yes, they were good looking, and they did remind me of the Vette, but something to them felt just a tad awkward.

"Stray Cat" one of our newest members just submitted the above photochop with a very subtle re-work of the tail lights, and wow, I love the change. (The Chip Foose looking paint job looks pretty cool too).

Coming Soon: New StreetFire Logo

Okay Okay Okay, we know we're Loooooooong overdue for T-Shirts and Decals. All Summer long we've been working hard to line up printers and the like, and we have become painfully aware that our logo is not very print friendly, is hard to put on a decal, and is a little difficult to make out.

So, we have finalized a new logo that pays homage to the old design, but is cleaner, easier to read and best of all print.

Okay, I've seen this car up on a dais at a car show, I've seen it in Ford "press videos" (read really really boring slow moving shots), but here is the first video I've seen of a GT500 acting like it damn well should. Love the part were it jumps sideways on the dyno.

300KPH, 500hp Turbo Wheelie Machine

Take a Suzuki Hyabusa, put a turbo on it, triple the power, and what do you get? The world's ultimate wheelie machine.

Video Starts with some high speed wheelies and ends with some bare knuckle traffic action, I particularly love how this thumbnail caught the momment of passing a minivan at almost 200mph.

Rear Mount Turbo on a Corvette C6

Some Disclaimers,
Yes, a rear mount turbo is not ideal, it has greater lag and makes less power than a more integrated unit, however you can't argue with the lower price, and how it bypasses modifications to the exhaust. In many ways a remote mount turbo is a very innovative solution to the growing complexity of exhaust systems and emission controls. However, the one wierd side affect for a rear mount turbo is hearing the Turbo at the rear of the car. I chose to highlight this video as you can hear the sound change as the cameraman walks around the Vette to the rear. Based on the description I believe this may be an STS turbo design, I think we'll see more of these kits as people become more accustom to the idea of a rear mount turbo. In the meantime, the C6 corvette is already a screamer, I can't imagine how fast it must be with this turbo system installed, waiting anxiously for a drag run!

EDIT: Just saw found some more videos. Turbo spools damn fast! Also here is the profile of the car (with updated paint and wheels) on the Fidanza.com web site.

New 2007 Acura AWD Turbo hot hatch

No, not really, this is just one of the latest photochops by our resident artist Shreddin'tread, but damn what a cool idea.

The funny thing is, yesterday LeftLane news reported that the RDX was just hitting dealer showrooms, so my wife and I jetted over to a local Acura dealership to try it out as a possible "economy option" to the MDX she's been eyeing.

The goods news is, it's a hoot to drive... Right up there with the Touareg V8 / Cayenne-S V8 as a "FUN" SUV. I even found it more fun than the BMW X3 which is saying a lot. The large displacement Turbo 4 cylinder never feels underpowered, and the lag isn't that bad. Heck it even has manumatic paddle shifters (though not a true SMG or DSG).

The bad news is, it only has about as much room as a large station wagon. I would be hard pressed to get two retriever sized Dogs in the back.... Though one would fit okay standing sideways. Oh well, our SUV-hunt continues.

Drifters get busted

So watching the video and reading the comments, here is what I have to say. First the cops are just doing their job, so don't hate on them. Second if you take the time to set up a cone course in a parking lot, why not go the extra step and ask permission to use the parking lot so you don't have to worry about the cops? I know that's what we used to do when autocrossing. Anyhow just my two cents....maybe things aren't that simple anymore...dunno... YMMV

CORRECTION: It appears that they did indeed have permission to use the parking lot and the cops did let them go upon realizing that. (thanks DJ PYROLYSIS for the update)
