Drifting in Warsaw, Fantastic Video!

So we're ticking down the final days of 2006 here at StreetFire and looking back we've been fortunate to host some great videos. We've also attracted the attention of some great videographers whose works get better and better with each upload. Adrenaline Motorsports has produced great videos all year long and here is one they just uploaded... All I can say is Bravo, 5 stars!

The StreetFire CTS-V failed us? 0-60 in "no"?

First, a disclaimer, Jeremy, Chris and I all love GM LSx series cars. I have a 1998 Trans Am, Jeremy has a 2007 Trailblazer SS, and Chris has a 2006 CTS-V. Sadly the V let us down when we needed it most.

We packed up for a trip to PRI in Orlando, and Chris' CTS-V was an all star carrying three of us and Camera gear the whole way down in luxury and performance. But, the drive back proved a nightmare as the car gave out. Was this the fist time? Sadly no, his car has had a pretty infirmed history, and 4 hours away from home Chris was stranded.

Anyhow, the whole thing is on film, feel free to watch and judge for yourself. Now I personally hope and have faith that GM will come through for Chris and make things right. I'm a strong believer in the CTS-V and don't think this one example is representative of the breed. However, it takes more than world class product to beat the Germans and Japanese, it takes service as well, so let's stay tuned for the resolution to this story and hope it has a happy ending for everyone.

Big Mac Drive-Through Rap

Just uploaded by "ClickHere"....well...okay, not really uploaded, rather he used our embed service that allows you to put YouTube videos up on StreetFire. Obviously we prefer it when you guys upload to us rather than to them, but we do really appreciate those of you that find good videos on other services and include them into our community... anyhow, this one was too funny not to feature.

Can a Chrysler 300 SRT8 take a C6 Vette?

Time for some MOPAR love, here is a well put together video from Mellon at RaceVideoForums.com. About 3 minutes in we see a SRT-8 playing on the highway with a Vette, doesn't look to me like they started out at the same time, so personally I would want to see a rematch, but watch for yourself to be the judge. Also later in the video we see a Viper shut down a C5 Corvette who is trying to get around...not terribly surprising.....

Help us clean up our comments!

I was randomly searching Google to see what people are saying about StreetFire.net and a common theme I run into is that as one person wrote "their comments are written by dyslexic 11 year olds".

Everyone, please search through our comments and click on Report post to Moderator on any comments that are completely inappropriate/rude/racist, etc. If it's just that you disagree with what they wrote just reply back to them.

Also be sure to thumb down bad posts, once it's been thumbed down 5 times that post is hidden.

HD (High Definition) video from SEMA

We shot a lot of footage at SEMA in high definition (1080i) and it just kills us to reduce the video all the way down to 428x321 resolution.

We thought it would be really cool to put up some HD video footage. We have a 3 minute clip from Giovanna Wheel's booth of some really nice Bentley's, Ferrari's, Royles, etc.

To watch the video we suggest the following. WMP 11, 2Ghz+ processor, 3 Mbps internet connection. The video is 1280x720 (720p for you HD geeks) encoded with WM9 VC-1 codec at 2.1 Mbps. No your dialup connection won't work.

When the page loads click the video once to activate the control and then right click it and click Zoom, Full-Screen. Please post in the comments how well it works from you (or doesn't) what type of internet connection you have (and provider) and your location.

We'll also post a follow-up direct link to the video for those on slow connections.

Corsica WRC Rally 1997: Ford vs. Subaru

Yet, another small taste of what we're missing out of here in the states since no cable provider will pick it up. "Only Rally Videos" has another great one they just put up from the WRC race in Corsica from almost ten years ago. Great stuff, love how the growds just press up within inches of the cars..... somehow this is like the exact opposite of Formula 1 racing to me. Formula 1 is all about Safety, safety and *yawn* more safety. Guess what? If I want "safe" I'll white knuckle the National Spelling Bee. No, I like watching car racing because it *IS* dangerous. It's the control of danger that makes it so exciting....Sorry about that, rant off. here's a cool Rally Vid.

Blog Update: Labels

Okay, yes it's a minor update, but I've wanted this for some time and Blogger has finally enabled this functionality. Look below the blog posts we make on the main page and you will see links to similar posts. A nice little convenience.

Oh, and also as a reminder the forums will be down tomorrow morning for a minor update, hopefully it will be back up and ready by lunch time. Videos will not be affected.

The dawn of car modification and Edelbrock

This is a real treat, and if you love cars you will love hearing how one of the premier families in car modification got their start. We talked with Vic Edelbrock himself about how his father started the company in 1938. Over 60 years later, the company is still here and so too is the car modification community that the Edelbrock family help found. Anyhow I hope you all enjoy watching this as much as we enjoyed filming it.

Major Outage

Hey folks, we had a major outage this morning at 2:00 AM. To make a long story short a clerical error at our DNS provider took down our server for 7 hours. We spent all night scrambling to clean stuff up, and even temporarily tried setting up anew DNS provider, which ended up being a mistake as now there are some false domain records floating around that need to work themselves out of the network. Anyhow. To make a long story short, we're back up and you may see some wierdness over the next 48 hours as network fleshes out the domain changes.

Greetings from the PRI show in Orlando!

(Performance Racing Industry - a racing trade show)

Chris and I just came out of the industry round table. A great discussion about all of the topics around racing at all levels, from local dirt tracks through the various series all the way to NASCAR and Formula 1. Engine tech, cost of entry, need to recruit talent, success of the racing industry and more.

While we were there, we got to thinking about you. What do you, the loyal StreetFire.net user, think about the racing industry? Have you ever been to an official racing event? Have you participated in racing, as a driver, crew, or sponsor? Are you interested in racing? What would get you involved? Drop a note onto the forum and let us know! If you are shy and don't want others to see, just send us a comment directly. We appreciate the thoughts!

Since we're here at PRI you might as well put us to work for you. Tell us what you'd track down if you were here. We've received a number of great requests already. Drop us a note now so we can follow up for you. If you, your boss or your company is here, let us know that as well ... we'll be sure to tell your boss you are the reason they are getting all the good publicity!

New M5Board.com Video: Gallardo vs. F430

Love it. Every time Gustav uploads a video, I feel like a kid at Christmas. Today, we have a Ferrari F430 vs. a Lamborgini Gallardo from a rolling start.

Oh, and here is an upload I missed. Check out 2 minutes 50 seconds into this video. [Watch]. It's a Video of the Koenigsegg CCX with 806 HP driven by the company founder Christian von Koenigsegg... Anyhow the video itself is a bit shakey, but but at 2:50 Christian just flat out GETS ON IT, and the sound is so amazing that even that little cam corder microphone weeps at it....SHWEET!

Podcast #006 Feaured Artist, Adrenaline Motorsport

We featured this video last month here on the blog, and now it's available to download on iTunes. Adrenaline Motorsports will be the first in what I hope are many featured artists on the StreetFire.net podcast. So if you have a team out there shooting videos, or want a little more exposure for your existing video series, let me know and I might toss your video in. Note, if you use music, please please please please use Creative Commons music. Creative commons music is free of many copyright issues, and is created by artist that WANT YOU to share their music. [Jamendo.com]. ...and no Linkin Park is not creative commons, and no we will not be able to feature you in the podcast is you use them ;-)

PS: I've gotten a lot of people emailing the Podcast line, I'll try to get to some of your questions next week.

CarPixTV Launches Video Sharing Site

So, one of our more prolific video teams are the folks at CarPixTV. Over the last couple of months, they've put up a great burn-out montage, put a Z06 and Shelby GT500 on Rt. 66, driven an Ariel Atom, played high society with a Rolls and finally Thrashed a Ford GT. Well, last month was the team's one year anniversary, and to celebrate they've launched their own video sharing web site*. Anyhow, maybe if Jeremy, Chris and I get more time we can get the site to site syndication working properly so the CarPix team can push some of their content back over here. In the meantime though, please visit their site to check out some great videos. Also check out their podcast on iTunes, if you want to download some of their vids!

[CarPixTV's video sharing Web Site]

*In case you're thinking this looks somewhat familiar, pardon us while we toot our own horn a bit. About two years ago, the founders of StreetFire split off the video technology to allow anyone to start their own video sharing web site. Today our technology is powering everything from StreetFire to Paint Ball video sites. For more information, check out www.Vidiac.com. more on that Story here

Michael Schumacher doing doughnuts in a Ferrari FXX and 599

So seven time F1 world Champion Michael Schumacher is not going quietly into retirement. Here he is ripping it up in a Ferrari FXX and then followed by some fun Drifto-doughnuts in a 599 GTB. I guess this is what the new "special assistant" to the CEO of Ferrari is supposed to do, huh?

Porsche GT3 v. Peugeot 206 v. Renault Clio

Okay, the Porsche is cool, because it's a Porsche, and someone is actually driving the tires off of it, but if I had to choose a winner based purely on style, then it's gotta be that Peugeot 206... I admit that little Clio hit a couple of good corners there at the end, but every time the 206 came on camera it was a delight.

Honda Civics in SoCal heaven

Great Video from ClubSi.com uploaded by Design! Just before Thanksgiving I took my first trip out to Southern California, and quickly realized why it's heaven on earth for us car guys. Fantastic mountain roads, incredible ocean views, amazing top down 75 degree weather....in November.......oh and yea it was 43 degrees and raining back home in Atlanta.

So here I am this morning and the Freak'n heat in my house is out (Dual zone AC means you're twice as likely to be without heat apparently)....poured a nice warm cup of coffee, sat down at the moderation que and here is this nice warm video from the driving paradise of SoCal. Thanks Guys!

The Hartge e60 M5

Gustav is one of my favorite uploaders... mainly because I have a soft spot for V10 BMWs and lately he has uploaded quite a few V10 3-series vids... Secondly he owns one of my favorite boards out there, www.M5board.com

When we first started StreetFire.net I took a lot of inspiration from M5Board, and told my partners that I really wanted us to start a community that honored all fast cars regardless of nationality. ...which wasn't difficult given that Chris has an American CTS-V, Jeremy has a Japanese EVO and I have a European M3.... hmmm.... maybe we just went that way to make sure the three of us would get along? ;-)

{removed by moderator}

Hey Folks, over the weekend we added a small piece of functionality to the comment section to try and tone things down, raise up the maturity level a bit and remind everyone that import or domestic we all love cars.

Some notes about the comments.
  • If you upload a video, you have the ability to moderate comments added to your own video.
  • Everyone gets the ability to moderate posts up or down. Please moderate posts up if they are informative, insightful or create harmony. Please moderate posts down if they violate the rules [Rules for posting], are immature, racists or inflamatory.
  • If a post is particularly bad, please press "report post to moderator" and we will take care of it.
  • If a commentator is particularly bad, then click their user name and thumb them down.
  • If a commentator is particularly good, then click their user name and thumb them up.
Please be aware that in the coming weeks we will be implementing a user rating system that will include your overall comment score, plus your overall video score, plus your overall profile score. We will use those scores to help moderate users and reward those that add to the community and remove those that do not.

Welcome our new Sponsor, Eibach Springs!

Running a web site is pretty expensive, running a web site with 5.4 Million monthly visitors is bank-busting. Now imagine serving high bandwidth videos to 5.4 Million people? Yea, some would say we're crazy....not saying they're wrong.... Thankfully we have very generous sponsors that advertise across our site and keep the lights on.

So I'm happy to announce our newest sponsor to add their support to our site. Everyone please take a moment to welcome Eibach Springs. Thanks guys, we could't do it without ya!
