C5 Z06 Blows Up!

vondutch brings us this fiery video from Great Lakes Dragway and while we're sad to see the demise of the vehicle involved, we're glad to see no one got hurt.

So, what does a TNT wet nitrous explosion in a 2001 Corvette C5 look like? Pretty gnarly, basically.

If you're thinking what we were - why are those dudes with the fire extinguishers just standing there? - all will be explained at the end of the vid.

This nitrous explosion gets the endurance award! And comes with fireworks, too!

11 sec 1/4 mile School Bus

josephayal is sharing some Puerto Rico drag strip action with us and damn if we wish we didn't go to school there!

Taking the bus to school would have been SO much more enjoyable in this! Not sure about the air quality for all those delicate, child-size lungs but whatever! If you're rolling the 1/4 mile in 11 seconds, even riding around in a yellow box looks appealing.

We wish we'd rolled in the School Bus that clears the 1/4 mile in 11 seconds! But we were too busy getting beaten up at the back by some knucklehead who thought he was tough.

Looks like Tulsa has something to prove and this Wheelie-popping School Bus might be just the one to do it.

Boosted Gallardo runs 10's

For this Gallardo owner, hitting 60 at 4 seconds and clearing 12’s on the 1/4 just wasn’t enough. Hell, if you have the money to afford a $180,000+ super car, were pretty sure you have enough money to give it a extra “umph.” Maybe a turbocharger or better yet a twin turbocharger?

Here is a quick 00:52-second video of a twin boosted Metallic Orange Lamborghini Gallardo. Supposedly EVSMotorsInc claims that this Gallardo is the fastest one in the world. 10.473....not too shabby huh?

Buschur DSM/Evo Shootout

Big Valley PR has been down at the drag strip to bring us all the action from the Buschur 16th DSM / Evo Shootout

Lots of Evos on show, including some definitely-not-stock Evo Xs. Plenty of 1/4 mile runs, with quite a few sub-10 seconders. Looks like a fun day at the strip...especially if you're holding the printout with the fastest time on it.

Over in France, see a near-miss on the track as some late braking nearly takes out the Evo that's ahead of the camera car.

900hp Chevy Van

blacknblueusa has been down at the drag strip and found something a little bit different for us.

We'd love this car even more if it was a minivan but the fact that it's a 900hp Chevy Van works too!

Probably a good job the van's not actually racing against anyone else, because when the driver hits the gas (and the nitrous) and that thing takes off, it literally takes off. Excellent points for burnout duration, plus ability to pull a great wheelie.

But just be sure you're not overdoing it or else things might go Boom

2JZ Powered 240SX S14

It's a good job there's only 1 car racing in this video from EVSMotorsInc because when the light turns green, it just sits there! Dude, who's behind the wheel?

That being said, once the car spools up and gets going, ain't no denying it's damn quick. This is a 2JZ Powered 240SX S14 and you're about to see its 1600hp propel it through the 1/4 mile in 8.69 seconds at 169.43 mph. Nice.

And just to show that Mitsubishi drivers are equally adept at boosting performance, JoeyMustang takes us to Puerto Rico where this Evo IX is running a Forced Performance Green Turbo and is about to do a 9.59 second run at 142mph.

If you need some time at the drag strip, you should definitely take a look at this '68 Camaro that can barely stay glued to the track as it rockets down the 1/8 mile in 5.10 seconds at 141mph.

Ride shotgun, wait for the green light, then drop the hammer, time after time. Nice.

Dynolicious Tests

You may recall we did a little test of iPhone's new Dynolicious application and thought it was pretty sweet.

Well now our friends over at Garage419 have done a proper test, getting real dyno numbers on a car, taking it to the track and getting the time slips from the drag strip and pitting it against the more expensive G-Tech portable dyno unit.

'07 Shelby GT500: 8.92 1/4 mile Run!

The fellas over at Evolution Performance have been at it again; making modifications to a perfectly good, and fast, car to make it, well, even better and even quicker.

And, apparently, adding 67mm twin turbos and 22.5 lbs of boost to a stock 5.4L 2007 Shelby Mustang will turn your GT500 into a GT1019 (horsepower that is, with 1016 lb-ft of torque to go with it).

We head from the dyno to the drag strip to see what those performance numbers mean in the real world. Guess what? The car's bloody fast! And with our driver getting better and better starts, the car turns in a 8.92 second 1/4 mile run at 158mph. Carroll would be proud.

World's Fastest Evo X

We don't have any official word on whether this vid from joeymustang really does show the World's Fastest Evo, but hey, it's pretty damn quick, so that's good enough for us!

We're down Puerto Rico way and I think we can safely assume that this white Evo X is now making a little more than it's stock 291hp. The driver gets a good start - so he's either rowing through a 6-speed or he's taking advantage of launch control on the SST. Either way, the car does a very respectable 10.77 seconds @ 125mph.

This video from Accelerated Performance is pretty quick...but then so is the car that's in it!

Blink and you'll miss the Supra leaving a cloud of dust and a trail of rubber as it screams off down the drag strip. Just how fast is it's 1/4 mile run? How does 8.27 seconds @ 176.46 mph sound? Yeah, we thought so too.

STM Evo

StreetTunedMotorsports are evidently pretty proud of their tuned Evo, and rightly so!

Turn up the retro "Eye of the Tiger" soundtrack and show some appreciation for the STM Evo. With only 3 days of prep on the new setup, they took it to the strip and managed a 10.14 1/4 mile @ 137mph. Nice!

1700HP Dodge Viper Twin Turbo

How does a 1700hp Dodge Viper Twin Turbo sound? Pretty sweet, right? This is Jerry Kennedy's 2002 Heffner Twin Turbo GTS being driven at the track for the first time by Gary Javo.

Get on board as this beast prepares to hurtle down the drag strip. It can't even get to the start line without getting sideways!

As you might expect, Gary's times are insanely fast and the in-car rumble and roar from the engine and exhaust are fantastic.

Even with a slow start and missed gear, Gary's running a 8.75 1/4 mile. Er, did we mention this car is fast?

Funny Corvette Dragster...Or How To Scream Like A Girl

We're pretty sure the passenger in this video is a dragster virgin and we're also pretty sure this was a "I'll try anything once" moment...that will never be repeated.

We're not sure what's most impressive - the fact that she manages not to hurl, the fact that she manages not to pee her pants, or the fact that we can hear her screaming over the noise of a Corvette dragster.

OMFG - we just re-watched the video...and it's a guy!!! Swear to God, thought it was a woman. Oh, that just makes this video SO much better.

4WD Turbo 'Vette

We can only imagine how much horsepower is being generated by the Corvette in this video. It's amazing it can even make a clean break from the line but, apart from seeming to ignore the green light, the launch is clean and fast.

The car clears the drag strip in 8.88 seconds at 266kph, so about 165mph. Turn up your volume when you watch this; you're gonna love the sound coming out of this turbocharged 4WD Corvette.

Chevy Wheel Stand

We're not convinced that the Chevy in this video is approaching its drag run from a particularly aerodynamic standpoint...but with the amount of power its evidently got lurking under the hood and going straight to the rear wheels, what does it matter?

As the driver floors the gas, the front end pops up and, looking like a puppy begging for its dinner, completes it's entire drag run on just its rear wheels.

But, given it's lightning-fast pass, we reckon this dawg deserves its dinner.

The title of this video: Wheel Stand Crash! should give you a fairly good idea that things did not go so well.

Worst Nitrous Explosion!

Thanks to jthompson for this fiery vid.

Generally speaking, if you're running on nitrous, you want the flames to be shooting out of the back of your vehicle as you rapidly disappear down the strip.

Unfortunately for this dragster, things get very hot, very quickly in the engine compartment and despite every fire extinguisher within reach being pointed in its direction, the flames just keep getting bigger.

A few explosions cause the crowd to scream and make everyone realize this fire just has to burn itself out. Not exactly the smoking-hot action everyone anticipated but a cool video (except for the car's owner) nonetheless.
