GM Heritage Center

StreetFire was recently invited to the Motor City where I Got Shotgun's Race Master Ryan took us on a tour through The GM Heritage Center. This facility houses over 200 cars from the last 100 years of GM's history. Some of the most influential vehicles in automobile history reside in this facility. With over 600 vehicles in their fleet, General Motors has historic vehicles from every era of the automobile.

Woodward Dream Cruise Podcast

Streetfire already brought you a sneak peak of some of the cars at this year's 14th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise but now get a closer look at some of the extremely beautiful classics that were on display.

Woodward Dream Cruise

In case you weren't one of the million people who converged on Detroit this past weekend, Streetfire was there to record all the action.

In its 15th year, the Woodward Dream Cruise brings together cars both old and new over a 16 mile parade route. And this year's cruise was especially heavy on GM vehicles because it's The General's 100th Anniversary. Coming out to help with the celebrations were, of course, the ZR1 and the Camaro, plus some true classics from years gone by. Happy Anniversary GM!

Upon arrival, these vehicles can be viewed at three locations: the Chevy Triangle and South Triangle in Birmingham, and Athens Coney Island in Royal Oak."

VIDEO: 1967 Corvette Test Drive

The great staff from Atlanta based American Sportscar Center Productions uploaded a nice clip on a 1967 Corvette. The owners of American Sportscar Center look all over the Southeast for Corvettes that have been well maintained and this one is a beauty.

A bit of GM design history: The C2 was a product of the William Mitchell era at GM. Where aviation themes had dominated design during Harley Earl's, the father of auto design and the Chevrolet Corvette, years at GM, Mitchell was more into European design which included fewer fins, less chrome, and a tighter body.

What you'll see: A vintage 1967 C2 Corvette Sting Ray four-speed with a 350 horse version of the 327. Check out the distinctive side exhaust and sound. She also came with factory air and power steering which was not standard at that time. This car is in almost mint condition inside and out. The few blemishes she carries are pointed out and then you go on a test drive. About 5:30 into the video you get a nice shot of the car on the road.

PHOTO ALBUM: Lifted Trucks

This album featuring the Hummer H3 from StreetFire member CandlerChevyBoy shows off his friends’ rides. CandlerChevyBoy, a self-proclaimed ‘Chevy’ man, drives a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado SS. You can see his SS in the album, too! He says it has a few modifications: “Whipple supercharger and new injectors hooked up to a new tranny” to name a few.

Really nice looking trucks especially the jacked-up-black-no frills-Chevy and just looking at a Hummer H2 is guaranteed to boost testosterone levels. There are two in this album!

SPOTTED: New Camaro Prototype

Camaro mules are being tested around the country. This one was caught on video and because we know everyone is 'past' ready for the new Camaro to show up on car lots, here is at least a vicarious ride. How GM will market this car is still being tossed about on forums. While the V-8 is sure to get the car noticed as a muscle car, the auto maker may instead go for marketing the more fuel efficient V-6 and also offer a four cylinder version. There has been so much talk and not enough driving action, so without further ado, the Fifth Generation Camaro Mule.

UAW Strikes GM

After nine days of negotiations with General Motors, the UAW called a strike at 11:06am today. The issues that caused the two sides not to come to an agreement included a new two-tiered wage structure and a new system for funding retiree health care. The UAW gave GM an 11:00 am deadline to resolve the issues or face a strike.

The new L92 and "Torque Plate Honing" explained

L92 heads = 30-50 RWHP on LS2


The LS7 and Torque Plate Honing ExplainedMore Good stuff from PRI. I cannot being to convey how much great stuff was at PRI, and how much information there is to convey about what all we saw there. But here is some more great information for the GM crowd out there.

The L92
We did a walk through of the L92, and one of the things that stands out most here to me is that it's a straight bolt on to the ubiquitous LS2 found in the CTS-V, GTO, Corvette, Trailblazer, etc. more impressive though is that it's a straight forward 30-50 RWHP bolt on. Heck LG Motorsports already has a L92-equipped LS2 putting out 485 RWHP [Link: LS1Tech Forum], thats more than a stock LS7!

The LS7
The real gem in the GMPP crown is of course the LS7, but you have to wonder why it cost so much more than an LS2? Part of that is the exotic parts like the Titanium Rods and part of it is the extra process like the Torque Plate Honing, which Tom explains to us in this video. Anyhow, enjoy watching.
