Chrysler Group's Electric Future

Electric Drive is the way of the future for Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep, with 2 hybrid vehicles - a Jeep Wrangler and a Chrysler Town & Country - in the lineup that use an electric motor, backed up by a small combustion engine and a generator. A definite step-up (in green terms) from just a gas guzzling motor.

But there's also a completely electric 2-door Dodge that produces the equivalent of 270 horsepower and around 450 lb-ft of torque, plus will do a 0-60 of under 5 seconds! It'll also go about 150miles on a single charge, which means there's really no excuse not to try electric power!

2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR

The car in this video from ReedBrothersDodge doesn't even move and we don't even care!

How f***ing cool does this car look?! It's a 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, which stands for American Club Racer. Because, obviously, 600HP is simply not enough to please people these days. They have to have just a little bit more.

And that's where the ACR edition comes in. While the motor is untouched, this beast of a machine gets several upgrades that reduce weight and, thus, give us more power. Amen to that!

Extra air-flow management, enhanced breaking (did you see the size of those rotors and calipers...), lightweight wheels and some additional weight-saving measures mean this car means very serious business.

We're in love with this car and we haven't even seen it move or heard it rumble. Who we gotta pay around here to get some goddamn RWD, tire-smoking action of this thing?

CARPIX DRIVES THE NEW PRODUCTION DODGE CHALLENGER

Here's the video scenario: Two black Challengers go for a drive at the LX Owner's Show in Irvine, California. One was released in the 70s (seeing this car back off the trailer will give you chill bumps) and we are on the verge of the release of the 2009 model. The guys also scan the Dodge product line and capture a Viper drifting and doing 360s. It's pretty sweet watching the Challengers cruising along side by side.

The guys from CarPixTV are the first ('third party Non-Chrysler personnel') to provide moving footage of the Dodge Challenger production car and to say they are excited to bring the action to you is an understatement. Look for their 'hard driving' video podcast April 11, 2008.

Photo Gallery: 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 Dyno

Last week a little present showed up at the StreetFire Studio, a 2008 Dodge SRT4. We only had it for a few hours, but it was enough to get a taste of it.

I'm happy to report it's actually a pretty fun car to drive, and with 4 doors and a hatch it has a practical side as well. The big thing? The engine. Pretty impressive little mill in a car this size it actually gets the Caliber down the highway at a good clip, assuming you can keep the car pointed straight under all the torque steer. I'm sure a decent differential would help keep things under control. Beyond that I was pretty impressed given the price.

The big thing I wanted to get was a dyno, and was sad to find out Dodge delivered the car with turbo-power sapping 89 Octane. Combine that with a hotter than normal October day and the numbers could have been better. But despite the excuses, the SRT4 put down 260hp at the front wheels. The more impressive thing though was the dyno graph, great torque that doesn't let up. My theory being long stroke to get the car moving and perhaps a slightly undersized turbo, but the result was great for a stock car.

Knowing StreetFire viewers are more interested in how to mod the car than it's grocery capacity, I managed to shoot some under-car photos as well. So check those out if you're curious what the car looks like underneath.
